The Electorate of Cessnock will benefit from a cash boost of $300,000 for the installation of LED lighting on the Kurri Kurri Minor Rugby League playing fields under the NSW Government’s Infrastructure Grants program, Member for the Electorate of Cessnock, Clayton Barr has announced.
“I am pleased to see grass roots sport in the electorate benefit from this funding, the installation of LED lights at the minor rugby league ground will provide many benefits for the Kurri Kurri community including enhancing safety and allow for night games and events,” said Mr Barr.
Clayton Barr said a total of 37 projects will receive support in this second round of the program for the 2024/25 financial year, after $6.44 million was delivered to fund 46 projects in July.
The Infrastructure Grants Program is made possible by ClubGrants Category 3, a fund which directs profits from registered clubs’ gaming machines into community projects, while clubs receive a tax concession in return.
The grants help deliver a wide range of grass-roots initiatives across four categories: sport and recreation; disaster readiness; community infrastructure; and arts and culture. Since 2013, more than 880 community projects have been awarded $152 million under the funding program.
Minister for Gaming and Racing David Harris said these projects make a real difference in supporting our local communities and people to live their best lives.
“ClubGrants Category 3 improve large community infrastructure projects that bring people together, help them prepare for and recover from disasters, and promote participation in sport, recreation and the arts.
“Congratulations to all the successful applicants, I look forward to seeing your completed infrastructure works and the impacts they have on your local communities.”
