They are the smiling faces that light up their grandkids worlds and they are the helping hand for parents and now it’s time to say a big thank you by nominating your Local Grandparent of the Year in the Cessnock Electorate.
Clayton Barr MP said the Local Grandparent of the Year Awards is a highlight of Grandparents Day on Sunday, 25 October.
“There’s no denying it’s been tough in 2020 on everyone including grandparents with COVID-19 meaning they have had to isolate more than most to keep themselves safe,” Mr Barr said.
“This is a unique occasion to honour grandparents, grand friends or grand neighbours for the role they play in our communities for the things they have done and the things they continue to do.”
“We have some truly inspiring grandparents across the Electorate of Cessnock and it would be great to show how much they are loved and appreciated.”
The Local Grandparent of the Year winner can be nominated for the big gong which is the NSW Grandparent of the Year Award.
Acting Minister for Seniors Geoff Lee said grandparents are often the glue which holds families together.
“It’s been a tough year with COVID and isolation so let’s celebrate all the good things that our grandparents do for our families and communities,” Mr Lee said.
“The love, care and support grandparents give is something we should all cherish.
“Grandparents Day is the perfect time to shine a spotlight on these special people and give them the recognition they deserve.
“I ask everyone to pick up the phone their older loved ones. Let’s put a smile on our grandparents’ faces this Grandparents Day.”
Nominations close 9 am Friday 25 September 2020.
