Firefighting upgrades protecting Hunter and Central Coast – Kurri Kurri Fire Station upgrades

An $810,000 upgrade of Kurri Kurri Fire Station – Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has been completed as part of a broader $12 million investment by the Minns Labor Government to enhance firefighting services across the Hunter and Central Coast.

The Kurri Kurri Fire Station – FRNSW upgrades included improving current arrangements to meet the required standards and clean area principle.

The changes give the FRNSW station a new lease on life, the upgrades include:

  • Dedicated male and female locker rooms
  • Separate male and female toilet and shower facilities.
  • Relocation of the existing watch room, additional office desk and large floor area.
  • Construction of a new PPC (Personal Protective Clothing) room and the relocation of the gym to an external demountable block in the rear of the yard to allow for additional floor space.
  • Repainted internally and externally, with new floor coverings
  • Electrical and mechanical services upgrades.

The upgrades complement recent enhancements at FRNSW stations at Bateau Bay, Umina, and Morisset including new changeroom facilities and improved contamination management.

Minister for Emergency Service Jihad Dib said:

“I am proud of our Government’s ongoing commitment to improving firefighting resources by investing more than $12 million to protect communities from the Central Coast to the Hunter.”

State Member for the Electorate of Cessnock, Clayton Barr said:

“The changes to the station will mean our male and female firefighters have dedicated areas that provide privacy.”
