Financial Assistance for Flood-Affected Residents in Cessnock Electorate

Latest News

Our community has once again faced the immense challenges of severe weather. My thoughts are with everyone impacted by the recent East Coast severe weather event and flooding in NSW. Navigating the aftermath can be overwhelming, and I want to ensure that all eligible residents in the Cessnock Electorate are aware of the financial and support services available to help them rebuild.

The NSW Government and the Australian Government have activated a range of financial assistance and recovery support measures for individuals and households directly affected by this event. It’s vital that those in need know what’s available and how to access it.

Personal Hardship Assistance (NSW Government)
This immediate, one-off payment helps cover essential needs like food, clothing, and emergency accommodation.

  • Eligible individuals can receive $180.
  • Households can receive up to $900.
  • How to apply: Applications are open until June 26, 2025. The quickest way to apply is via the Service NSW website or app. You can also seek in-person assistance with applications at Recovery Centres in impacted regions (like the one set up in Maitland Town Hall).

Australian Government Disaster Recovery Programs
The Australian Government also provides additional income and lump-sum payments:

1. Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA):

  • For those who have lost income as a direct result of the severe weather and flooding.
  • May be eligible for up to 13 weeks of income support.
  • How to apply: Applications are made through Services Australia via the MyGov App. (Please note the original document states applications close 21 November, constituents should check the Services Australia website for the most current closing dates).

2. Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP):

  • For people who have experienced the most serious impacts from this event.
  • Eligible for $1000 per adult and $400 per child.
  • How to apply: Available through Services Australia via the MyGov App.
