APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR LOCAL SPORT GRANT PROGRAM

Local sporting clubs across the Electorate of Cessnock are encouraged to apply for funding under the 2022 Local Sport Grant Program.

State Member for the Electorate of Cessnock, Clayton Barr, MP said the program focuses on increasing participation in sport through events, development programs and facilities.

“Across our community, sport plays a crucial role in bringing people together.  We need to ensure functional resources and facilities are available for participants and spectators” Mr Barr said.

Up to $50,000 has been allocated for projects within the Electorate of Cessnock and incorporated, not-for-profit grassroots sport groups are eligible to apply. The grant amount requested must be a minimum of $2,000 and a maximum of $10,000.

“Sporting groups across the Electorate of Cessnock have been successful in receiving funding in recent years to improve their facilities and encourage community members to get involved with their local clubs and to host sporting events” said Mr Barr.

The 2021/2022 Local Sport Grant Program recipients included Abermain Weston Hawks RLFC $4,765, Branxton Greta Swim Club $2,000, Cardiff Boolaroo District Cricket Club $4,934, Wine Country Cricket Club $5,000, Newcastle Hunter Cycling Club $3,751.50, Mt Sugarloaf Croquet Club $6,017, Cessnock Rugby League Football Club $10,000 and Edgeworth Senior Soccer Club Inc $11,781.

“The grants have been used recently to fund everything from sporting events to encourage participation in a particular sport, installation of a scoreboard, remove and replace damaged field perimeter fencing, coaching development courses and to improve storage and facilities.”
