110 new police officers start across NSW

The NSW Government is proud to welcome 110 new Probationary Constables to the NSW Police Force.

Class 363 attestated at the Goulburn Police Academy on Friday 16 August and have begun work at their new home stations. The new officers are undertaking 12 months of on-the-job training with the rank of Probationary Constable.

5 new Probationary Constables have been allocated to Hunter Valley Police District and 6 have been allocated to the Lake Macquarie Police District.

They will undertake general duties police work and gain valuable experience working alongside their seasoned colleagues.

Class 363 is made up of students from diverse backgrounds including New Zealand, Iraq, Kuwait, England and Fiji. 7 recruits are First Nations peoples.

These new officers are a welcome boost to local policing and reaffirm the Government’s commitment to strengthen our frontline services across the state.

Last year, the NSW Government made the historic announcement that Student Police Officers will be paid to study at the Goulburn Police Academy.

Student Police Officers will receive a total salary of approximately $30,984 over the 16-week study period, including super and award-based allowances.

To boost police numbers, the Professional Mobility Program was introduced to incentivise officers from other Australian and New Zealand jurisdictions to join the NSW Police Force while retaining their equivalent rank.

The NSW Government has also launched the “You Should Be a Cop in Your Hometown” program, ensuring that those who wish to return to regional NSW are stationed there after graduating from the Academy.

To attract school leavers, the NSW Government recently lowered the age requirement for recruits from 19 to 18.

“Those attesting have worked hard over the past eight months and I am proud to welcome them all into our world-class police force.

“They will have an integral role to play in serving their local communities and in keeping NSW safe.

“I encourage all the attesting probationary constables to seize every opportunity, never stop learning, and to take pride in the uniform you wear every day.

“The work you will do throughout your career will make a difference to countless lives.”
